The "Mozart Effect"
ReplyDeleteAfter reading the article I would have to say that I agree with it. In my experience if I have country music going it makes me feel and sometimes get all emotion at times. But then I'll put on Frank Sinatra and I feel like I am floating on the moon and can do anything because it you makes you feel just amazing. I have also found that if I listen to Frank I seem to do better and have better concentration like I am trying to please him even though I know he is not there. He is an amazing inspiration on my life.
In the article, "The Mozart Effect" the author talks about the way that music affects our mood. I agree with the article. My taste in music is all over the place and is mainly based on my mood. When I am pumped up I like rock n roll. When I am wanting to be mellow I like Easy Listening..what my daughter refers to as elevator music. My favorite music now and always is the 1970's era. I like the 70's music because it puts me in the best mood. The lyrics are better than anytime, meaning they have meaning. This type of music also reminds me of my younger years and a better time. Most of the hardcore metal/rap I don't care for. I also get a pounding headache from the music kids listen to now with the loud bass in the background.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the Mozart Effect, which says that music can effect a persons mood. Music is good for the soul - there is no doubt about that. I find Bob Marley to be relaxing and inspiring, I love listening to songs that I enjoyed as a teenager because it makes me feel happy and reminiscent. I have not tried studying with background music, I always assumed I would be distracted, but I think I will give it a try. As I get older, I find myself less tolerant of loud, aggressive music, and more appreciative of music that was made before and shortly after I was born.
ReplyDeleteI don't really have a specific favorite type of music. I do not at all enjoy listening to music when I study, I have a hard time concentrating when I try. When I have tried listening to music while studying I found that the best thing to listen to would be music that I am not familiar with. This is because I tend to block it out easier and focus on the task at hand. So harder rock like what's on 106.5 is the best because I don't really like any of it. If I listen to music I know, and enjoy, it occasionally motivates me to get done faster. But there isn't a certain type, if any, that I'd prefer to listen to while working.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading the Mozart article i have to agree, i believe that music does effect moods. I know that i listen to a variety of music. I plug my ipod in and you will hear anything from hardcore screamo to rap to country to pop. When im upset or sad about something normally i listen to screamo/rock. But when im in fine mood just hanging out kind of thing i usually am pounding my stereo in my car filled with Rap. Most of all i like anything i know the lyrics to i like to sing along with everything.

ReplyDeleteI am answering question number 1. My favorite type of music would have to be rock, I love punk rock, alternative rock and even some emo. When ever I have something to work on and need to clear my head or be inspired I listen to my "It's a Warped Life" playlist which has songs by my favorite bands that i have seen at Vans Warped Tour. When I'm angry, or upset I listen to my "Pop Off" playlist and just sing at the top of my lungs and sometime I get riled up but usually by the time i am done I've gotten over what i was upset about in the first place. Music is such a powerful thing, it has the ability to evoke emotion, inspire, and soothe.
After reading the “Mozart Effect”, I would have to say that I can disagree and agree. I can understand that some people may feel more calm when listening to music. Music definitely can have an effect on people’s moods and emotions. Doctor’s offices, transportation vehicles, and restaurants all have music playing to calm and soothe clients. Think about going into the dentist to get a root canal, I know that my dentist always has music playing to distract from what is going on. However, music tends to annoy me when I’m trying to study. I feel as if it takes away from what I am trying to do and is difficult to focus.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a favorite type of music, but I definitely agree that the music I like effects my mood. It can help or hinder a persons ability to concentrate on something, but most people listen to music to help enhance or soothe a mood. Music is a very powerful thing and can really help me with creativity. Whether it be to get me in the mood to draw, or to counter writers block, I absolutely love listening to music, even if it makes my mind wander occasionally.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read about the "Mozart Effect", I agree with some of the stuff they say because music does help people work harder. When I am working on a long essay or a long page paper due for school, I normally listen to music because it helps be think of ideas. It also makes me feel like I wanna work harder and it makes me in a good mood. The one music that would not help me work is classical stuff because it reminds me of a doctors office or an elevator music. But pretty much anything other than classical works for me and makes me a good worker.
ReplyDeleteI personally don’t have one favorite type of music. When listening to music I can’t read, study, or write anything, let alone doing any critical thinking. I have to have peace and quit when working or I can’t get anything done. I tried listening to some soft country, modern Rock, hip-hop, R&B, classical music. After listening to it and trying to read and study I couldn’t get anywhere. I kept losing my place when I was reading and when I was trying to write I couldn’t organize my thoughts, because when a song would come on I would start singing it and tapping my fingers. Listing to music is not a good idea for me.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely agree with the Mozart Effect, music can affect our daily lives like few other sounds can. Music can inspire us; make us feel emotion that we would otherwise miss. Music can even change our mood. Who hasn't at some time been feeling sad, and actually had thier mood improved by a song? On the other hand, I have heard a lot of people say "I hate that song" or "I hate that type of music". How many other sounds can inspire that sharp of a criticism? Music, after food, is also the second easiest way to experience someone else's culture.
ReplyDeleteI am a big fan of all different types of music. I feel the "Mozart Effect" states what all people would feel if they were listening to their choices of music. Hip-hop, R&B/soul, Rock, and Jazz are my favorite types of music, and they all make me feel different mentally and physically. Music helps people mentally because it helps them escape from problems, and also can be very good for motivation. When I think and listen to music, I think about a better world beyond the one we live in today, because im usually always feeling positive and motivated to do better to change it
ReplyDelete1.) If I had to choose one kind of music to be my favorite I would say Rock. But I really enjoy almost every kind of music, from country to hip hop. I listen to music that fits the current mood I'm in usually. I do agree with the "Mozart Effect" and the positive affect it can have on studying. When trying to memorize definitions or flashcards for medical terminology music will get me into the zone. When I have material to read or a paper to write, I need silence. So although music helps stimulate my brain sometimes, other times it doesn't.
ReplyDelete2.) The music I've studied with is classic rock, rock, country, hip hop, reggae, alternative, jazz, etc. I would say that rock somewhat interfered with studying and just made me want to exercise. When listening to jazz or reggae it seemed to help. Music that is more upbeat is not the best to study to; I find the relaxing music more beneficial. This fits with what the Mozart Effect said as well.
After reading the article, "The Mozart Effect," I have to agree with it. I find that listening to classical or light peaceful music helps me to relax and focus. I find that music can greatly influence what type of mood you are in. If I am feeling a little down I find that country music can relate to how I'm feeling. Also the type of music I listen too differs when I'm around certain people. If I am around friends I want to listen to something fun and upbeat. When going to a concert I enjoy seeing rock bands play. I find them to be the most entertaining to watch.
ReplyDeleteThis was an interesting read for me and i tried this out and found that it was difficult for me to follow while i was listening to music or any disturbance. I would say after this I tried this i believe that i am better at paying attention with no distraction, no matter what kind of music it would be as i tried several different kinds.
ReplyDeleteI 100% agree that music will affect your emotions or even your energy levels. I do not have a particular "favorite" type of music but I dislike country. When studying, trying to concentrate or even sleep any kind of sound is an interruption for me. When pysically working, loud high energy music such as rock will get me moving. ex: cutting the lawn or cleaning the house.Iv'e found myself driving faster to this type of music. Or on the other hand slower to softer music.Cognitively I'm not sure that apply's to me.
ReplyDeleteI like country music most of the time. i usally clean to country. When I listen to country it makes my mood stay calm. I can't really listen to music when I am studying just because I can't focus on what I'm reading. When driving long distance I listen to country and hip-hop. But I mainly listen to the hip-hop just because it keeps an up beat instead of relaxing me. There are times though when the husband is in the car and it has to be on country all the time. He says anything but country makes him angry. I guess it depends on what your parents listened to as you grow up. I like both.

ReplyDelete1) My favorite music is heavy metal but I also listen to different kinds of music depending on my mood at that time. I agree completely with the Mozart Effect because everytime I listen to music if I'm in a bad or good mood I always feel better when I listen to it. I always have music playing when I'm doing homework or studying it makes me more at ease and less stressed when I'm trying to tackle an assignment. It helps me to think more out of the box and i'm never stressed it's almost like it's therapeutic for me music helped through alot of issues i have had or delt with.
The article that I read. Fits into everything that is part of life. "The Mozart Effect" is always into play. It shows that we have many favorite things that we like to do and they are listening to music, painting art work, and reading a book or something along those lines.
ReplyDeleteThe article that I just read, is right on almost all of what they were saying. I do get excited when I hear my favorite song, and if it is a sad song, then I get not emotional per say; but it feels like I can relate to their pain.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite type of music is pop but I listen to country as well. When i'm trying to study for an exam, I can not have any music on what so ever. It not only distracts me but its hard for me to focus and process any of the information.
After reading "The Mozart Effect" I would have to agree with some things. No matter what I'm doing if I can have music on, I will. Music helps me focus on school work, driving, at work, etc. I listen to all kinds of music, different songs for different moods or emotions but not different styles for different things. Music is music to me. I dont judge on the style. It's all personal to me, I reach and listen to the lyrics, not the sound. Usually I just put my ipod on shuffle and I'm set all day everyday no matter what I'm doing. Some people need different styles for different emotions but I think mostly for me it's the background noise I need when I'm doing everyday things, otherwise when I'm sitting down listening to music and I'm not busy, it's the lyrics. Music helps me get through eachday no matter how I'm looking at it or using it that day, it still helps.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the "Mozart Effect" I feel music adds inspiration to everyday life. I feel music is motivational and also soothing at times. I like to listen to music whenever I can and my favorite type is Hard Rock music. I like the beat to that certain type of music and feel that it gets me into the mood to where I can do anything that needs to be done. I dont listen to any other type of music other than hard rock but I do on occasion listen to something different just for change.
ReplyDeleteGina T.
I agree 100% about music affecting all of my emotions. It helps me study, calms me down and yet it still makes me happy at the same time! Country is usually my music of choice but as I get older I have noticed I listen to different styles depending on what is going on. My teenagers like the hard rock stuff, me not so much. My daughter loves the soundtrack from Mama Mia and I find myself signing those songs to myself when the music is off. I truly believe that music is therapy for the soul! My husband even bought me an under the cabinet radio for the kitchen, he thought music might improve my cooking abilities! LOL
ReplyDeleteI think listening to music while I study is a distraction. I listen to all kinds of music but Country is probably my favorite. I feel that I can relate to some of the songs. I can't listen to any type of heavy metal music because I have a hard time following it and most of the time do not know what they are saying. I think music can relax anyone. If you are having a hard day just put your favorite CD in and you will usually be in a better mood!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite music is Country. It makes me laugh to say that though because I can recall a time when I refused to listen to it. Lesson learned; don't dis anything until you give it a try. I also enjoy listening to Classic Rock, Oldies, Rock and even some Hard Rock. I tend not to listen to music when I study because past experience has shown me that I listen more to the music than the task had hand. I do however, agree with music affecting a persons mood.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy all types of music that I can relate to and that can uplift me in some way. I do believe that the " Mozart Effect" dose work because I've heard of people who play classical music during pregnancy and studies show that those children perform better in school similar results as the Marshmallow Project. Going away for college taught me a lot about emotions and culture, I've witness how music can define people and influence them. Over the years I've tried to study with different types of music, especially living in the dorms with two other roommates there's it pretty hard to avoid the distraction of loud music. depending on my current mood slow song can get a little distracting where I found myself wondering off ( somewhere on cloud 9 ). Usually I tend get side track when I study with music every five seconds I'm ready to shake my get-along. However, I don't do well in silence, but Im willing to try studying with classical music for now on.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading the Mozart Effect, I have to agree that music does affect our moods. Music is a very soothing art. Studies have shown that pregnant women who listen to classical music and soft instrumental music creates a better mood for the mother and also for the baby. I like all different kinds of music, ranging from Dave Matthews Band to Slipknot. Hard rock tends to get the adrenaline going to where as soft classical music tends to relax people. Music is a great way to escape from the everyday stresses of life. Being Italian, Frank Sinatra was a big part of my parents life while growing up. I still enjoy Sinatra as an adult. I find it hard to study while listening to music with a fast beat so I tend to listen to the softer stuff. Dave Matthews is my favorite band and it always calms me down after a stressful day.
ReplyDeleteI think that this article is fascinating to me. I think it can be beneficial to listen to music. A lot of pregnant moms have their baby listen to it when they are pregnant with them to have them have benefits in intelligent and other things. I believe this is true that it can promote better intelligence and open feelings. People should listen to music more often to open up their emotions and their mind. I don’t think that it is just classical music that promotes this though. I think any music can speak to someone and have them open their intelligence and emotions.
ReplyDeleteAlthough my favorite is country music, I enjoy listening to almost all types of music. When I am studying, I find that classical music is best. My mind is not distracted by the story of the song.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with the “Mozart Effect.” Music has had an amazing effect on me. When I was 18, someone I loved was tragically killed. I was in basic training and could not return home for the funeral so I was never able to say goodbye. Then a few years ago, a song touched me in a way that transported me back to a moment in time and healed what once was broken.
I listen to all types of music. IO usually don't listen to music when I am studying because it distracts me. On the other hand I can listen to tv and that doesn't bother me at all. I can't give an explination why because I have no clue why. I've tried playing different types of music while studying but I just can't listen to it. When listening to music, while i'm studying I just can't concentrate. For some reason music puts me to sleep. This would not be good for me because i'd never get my homework done.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite type of music is R&B and Hip-Hop. When I listen to R&B it calms me down and has me reminiscing on things from the past and future. Especially when those love songs come on. I have tried to listen to music while I am doing work. I have felt that the work environment is better and makes the days goes by faster. I can’t listen to music and read though but I don’t think I am alone with that one.
ReplyDeleteThe "Mozart Effect" article is compleatly right in my opinion about music having an effect on people. I know when i study i listen to all kids of music. But i have found i concentrate better if im listening to more calming music then lets say rock or metal. On the other had i work faster when i listen to fast songs.

ReplyDeleteI agree with the Mozart Effect results. Depending on which music I play depends strongly on which mood I am in and vise versa. I will play more mellow music like acoustic or soft rock to help me focus on homework. But if I am in a bad mood or im really awake I will listen to "scremo" or heavy music. Alot of teachers tell students that they should not listen to music while they read, but i can do both and it keeps me focused on reading.
I agree with "Mozart Effect". It is crazy to say that music does not affect the way you think and that the effects are short term. When I hear a song I think of a memory, or a live performance if I happened to see the artist live, or the music video for the song. Something is definitely triggered in the brain. I prefer to listen to metal most of the time. Whether I am driving or at the gym that is what I listen to.
ReplyDeleteI have tried to listen to music while doing any type of homework and I just cannot do it. I need silence. Activities like homework require deeper thought than driving or exercising which are more of a "muscle/memory" type of thinking.
I agree with the Mozart Effect results.I personally enjoy all different kinds of music, from country to rock. Certain music can effect the mood you are in. For me when I want to get in a good mood I always turn the music up real loud and sing along even though singing is not one of my talents, it lifts my spirits. I love listening to all music in the car, cleaning, or just relaxing somewhere. For me sometimes when I hear certain songs it also brings me back to a good or maybe even sad experience or memory that I had went through. Music effects people in so many different ways from being inspirational to healing.
ReplyDeleteI found myself agreeing with the article "The Mozart Effect". I can see these effects on my son on a daily basis. During the day the radio is on in his room. When he's in there with a pop or rock station on, he's running around, yelling and having fun. When it's time for bed we turn on a classical CD and he instantly knows it's time to calm down and get ready for bed. We've used this on him since we brought him home from the hospital and it's proven to be an effective routine. It's also great to know that the music improves and promotes brain stimulation.
ReplyDeleteI don't have a favorite type of music I listen to. I listen to a variety of music, depending on the current mood I am in. Listening to music affects the way I study. I have to have complete silence while I am studying. If there is distraction with music, it throws me off task. No matter what type of music I listen to, I still get distracted and cannot concentrate. Listening to music prolongs my work getting done.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this study because i use it with my everyday life. When i am feeling upset or mad i will always play rock music that helps me let all my anger out. Then one the days when i feel so happy and care free i love to play music that fits my life style which is always to have a good time. The music i listen can sometimes change my mood. Sad music will sometimes make me a shed a tear if i am in a certain mood. Also in the morning when i am driving to work or school the music on the radio will sometimes help me decide the day i might have. So i feel music is a huge part in a persons life. Its helps you get through hard times when it also helps you have a good time.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what the article had to say. Music can play a rolw in how you feel at that moment but it is the listener who allows to heatwhat they are listening to. People play depressing music to feel depressed. If you are feeling happy whle listening to music thwen you tend to listen to it more. Music can effect memory as well. Like when you listen to a song that you remember froma long time ago you remember wher you where when you first heard that song. Music is form of expression and is apart of human nature and so it makes sense it touches our emotions.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with this article. Many people including myself are touched emotionally by music. Whether you're trying to relax or get pumped for a workout, there's a type of music to suit the mood. Take Christmas for example, who doesn't feel the holiday spirit when they hear "Silver Bells" or "Jingle Bells". What's intresting to me is the fact that these music types have such an impact on our moods and how we potentially perceive certian moments in time and associate them with that music. Funny what a catchy tune can do to one's outlook.

ReplyDeleteI agree with this article. Everybody listens to different kinds of music because different music makes them concentrate or relax. No matter who you are there is some type of music that suits someone in some way. I don't really have a preference of music, my music always depends on my mood. Like when i listen to metal it always seems to help me concentrate, but then country music helps me relax.
i agree with the article. i listen to music that is appealing to me. if i don't like it i turn it off. i listen to country because i can understand the words and i like the feeling behind the music. it helps me concentrate and focus on my day ahead.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the article. i have my own taste in music. and so does every other person in the world. I personally like to listen to all types of music. the type of music i listen to doesnt nesscarily match up with my feelings though. i try to use the music i like to change my moods, especially if i am sad. When im sad i will listen to something up beat. and when im content or happy, i will listen to what ever music i want to hear at that time.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the article. I have certain songs that i enjoy and they help me work better and such when listening to them (at least I believe so) and music does effect my mood. It can make me happy and help me have fun or be annoying to me and frustrate me.
ReplyDeleteMozart Effect
ReplyDeleteWhen I read the Mozart Effect and the ways it effects us was very interesting to me. That's when I decided to try it out on myself. First of all, I have always been the type of person that needed a silent learning enviroment. Secondly, I acknowledged the fact that no matter how much I love music, it was very distracting to me, regardless of what I am doing. And lastly, I wondered if this experiment would work on me.
I began my homework one weekend morning, and my boyfriend put on eighties music. I was so distracted by it, that all my focus went to the music, and my homework sat, unfinished. I turned off the music and sat in silence and began my homework again. The irony is that I was reading the Mozart article at the time, and after reading it, I decided to give it a try. I turned on the classical masterpieces and began my homework. Some of it was too loud for me to concentrate fully so I turned it down just to where I could barely hear it.
As I began my homework, I noticed something that sounds silly. I felt smarter. Not only could I read, but fully comprehend the importance of the material and my focus felt right on. I completed all of my homework, and I feel I did a great job. It has been three weeks since I read that article and everytime I read a book do homework, or even clean, I find that putting on classical music keeps me positive and motivated. There isn't anything for me to focus on because I don't know the music and there are no words. It the best combination for me.
Now I can look at this two different ways, I can either just be getting old a nd like the calming effects that classical music has on me, or I can think of it as my thinking cap, helping me continue and improve my concentration, focus, and comprehension. I know I have made a conscious decision to continue listening to classical music during homework and I intend to also put some classical on my ipod for the school library, where I noticed I struggle to stay focused the most. The Mozart Effect works on me!
As a drummer’s daughter I believe music expresses words and feelings that sometimes people can’t. My Dad has a poster hanging up that correlates to this topic stating: “when words fail, music speaks”. After reading about the different types of music and how they affect our bodies, sometimes without realizing it like when listening to classical music it can enhance your focus and improve your work and when listening to hip-hop or dance your feel like moving and dancing. I feel that music is a huge part of my life and without listening to music I feel as if my day were not complete.
ReplyDeleteI would have to say that this was an interesting article for me. when reading The Mozart Effect I would have to say that I agree that music has an influence on an individuals mood. I think that there are types of music that make people relax and there are some other types of music that are upbeat and put people in a better mood.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the article, I liked it. Music has different effects on different people. In some people, classical music might awaken their mind and their focus while for others it may bore them and put them to sleep. Music is a huge part of my life. I never go a day without music. I don't have one type of music that I listen to. I am a huge country fan because it sooths me and keeps me calm. If I am feeling down or just plain angry I love my rock music. I do tend to listen to rock music more than anything though. And then there's rap/hip-hop, I listen to that if I feel like dancing.
ReplyDeletei agree with the article. i loove music and i believe that it has major affects on people. my favorite kind of music is country i grew up in a small town called westdale.my dad is also a country fan. i was a daddys girl. it is an hour from her. in my car the radio is never off i listen to all day long. i listen to other kinds as well but country mainly.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the article completely. I think that depending on what kind of modd you are in or wnt to be in, can be reflected to the type of mucis that you are currently listening to. If you want to be happy, you listen to upbeat music, if you're sad you might listen to country, and if you are angry you might listen to rock music.
ReplyDeleteI agree with this article completely! I live on music! No matter what kind of mood im in i can find a song that will fit my mood. I like almost anything! I listen to anything from Johnny Cash to Eminem, to Flogging Molly to lady gaga it doesnt matter. I feel that music is the best way to express yourself. The way people can fit lines that ryhm with the music and turn it into a story amazes me!
ReplyDeleteI like all types of music, my favorite is classic rock. There are different feelings that can affect you while listening to music. While trying to study I like easy listening music, it helps me relax and focus on my work. When my children play hip hop or rap music while I am studying, I can lose concentration and am not totally focused on my work. Other music like country, rock and classical has been music that can also not interfere with my studies and can help keep me in a positive mood.
